OK, so I am anxiously waiting for all the images from last week's photo shoot to pop into my inbox from David E Owen and I'm getting excited!  He has been teasing me with  a couple of snaps, so thought I'd do the same to you ;-)

So, as you know we had a photo shoot here at The Cupcake Box on 12 May with some lovely suppliers getting involved! And we thought you may like a sneak preview ahead of the images being released...

The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are fast approaching.  It brings the promise of more than just the staging of a sporting event, but also to bring the country together and reignite our community spirit.  As a family member is part of the GB Paracycling Team and a London 2012 hopeful it is a huge focus for our family and an adventure to be enjoyed.

One ‘pit stop’ that I was looking forward to along the way was the British Sugarcraft Guild (BSCG) 7th International Sugarcraft Exhibition to be held in May 2012.  The theme too many was obvious...the Olympics!  However, many of you avid bakers may already be aware of the ban imposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which prevents us from copying any of the official symbols, including the iconic five rings, due to copyright law.

So my question is simple, is it Copy ‘right or wrong’???

On one hand I understand that the use of the official logos and symbols is a privilege that is reserved for sponsors.  On the other, the undeniable fact that during any national event that is being celebrated themed cakes/cupcakes are very popular.

To name one such recent event The Royal Wedding back in April 2011.  How many people had cakes/cupcakes adorned with pictures of the happy couple?!  Many of these pictures used were done so without seeking ‘permission’.  However, I am sure that the sales of official merchandise were not too severely affected.

It is not surprising then that this crack-down by the IOC has shocked many and left a bitter taste within an industry who work primarily with the sweet.  So it is with regret that I must decline any request for specific London 2012 themed orders (i.e with the London 2012 logo, Olympic rings etc)... but I shall not refrain from celebrating and creating such cupcakes for my own family.
